Doug Hudson
Professor and Chair of Animation
Bio
Musician, filmmaker, and educator Douglas Hudson has championed the independent spirit of creative practice through his eclectic work and actions for over 40 years.
He is currently Professor & Chair of the animation department he founded for the Kansas City Art Institute in 2004 (animation majors now represent one quarter of KCAI's total enrollment). Three of his students won a Student Academy Award for their graduation film in 2010 and the majority of others routinely go on to enjoy successful creative careers across the industry.
Some of Doug's early works include producing the entire 14 hour soundtrack for 1-900-SUBTEXT, a revolutionary choose your own adventure game played via the telephone in 1994. In 1996 he created and managed the immersive multimedia installation for the critically acclaimed Nothing performances staged in historic Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia directed by Mark Lord.
Most notably, he was a member of the first team of animators to bring the classic Looney Tunes characters to the internet in a series of original digital shorts for Warner Brothers in 2000-2001 (in addition to animating for the DC web series Gotham Girls and Lobo). And yes, he is the voice of Jonathan in the animated phenom Welcome to Hell directed by Erica Wester in 2013.
When not teaching animation history and running the department at KCAI, Doug produces independently in a variety of different modalities, including commissioned music videos, online shorts, and sound design.
